Superglue Makes for a Lighter Acadia in 2017

The GMC Acadia has lost a lot of weight for 2017, and it comes down to a diet of superglue. Instead of using rivets or welding to hold together parts of the Acadia, they design team decided to use advanced adhesives like those used for airplanes.

The adhesive works to actually bond the parts together and make them stiffer, allowing GM to use thinner steel throughout many different parts of the Acadia’s body. The steel is only thinner by a hair, a human hair to be exact, but it’s the small differences that add up to a much lighter and more efficient SUV.
