There’s been a time in recent years where it seemed like no one was buying – or really making – midsize trucks. And it was a shame, as the segment has such immense potential to satisfy a variety of needs that don’t quite get met by other types of vehicles. We love the midsize truck for its versatility, price, and just-right size. Want to take a look at how a couple of today’s midsize truck options compare to one another based on a number of areas? Today we’re looking at the 2015 GMC Canyon vs 2015 Toyota Tacoma. The Canyon, new for 2015, takes on the Tacoma in areas of price, capability, towing, and warranty coverage.
How does the Canyon stack up? You’ll see that the price is relatively similar, and since final price is determined by several factors outside of MSRP, it’s safe to say that the two trucks are about the same in terms of what they’ll cost to own. So what do you get for your money?
One area in which the 2015 GMC Canyon undoubtedly excels is in its capable base engine. The figure shown is for the standard 2.5-liter I-4 engine, and there’s also an available V6 that gets up 305 horsepower. The Tacoma’s V6 offering gets 236. As for trailer weight, the official number hasn’t been released yet for the 2015 GMC Canyon but GMC assures us it’ll be at least 6,700 lbs for the maximum trailer weight, and could very well exceed that. The 2015 Toyota Tacoma tows up to 6,500 according to the Toyota website.
Another area you might want to think about is the roadside assistance warranty, where as you can see the Canyon comes with a far more extensive amount of coverage for when you need it most during your busy time on the road trying to get things done.
