Get to know the Cadillac CTS

What does Cadillac CTS stand for?

2014 Cadillac CTS

You know the Cadillac CTS. It’s that striking, powerful, technologically advanced sport sedan that just won Motor Trend’s 2014 Car of the Year. Oh yeah, that one! It’s kind of hard to miss.  But here’s a question you may or may not have thought of before: What does Cadillac CTS stand for? Today we’ll explore a little bit of our favorite luxury sedan’s beginnings, including where it gets the name CTS. Then we’ll tell you more about the current model, in stock now here at Palmen Buick GMC Cadillac!

The Cadillac CTS was introduced in 2002 as a 2003 model, so it’s just over ten years old. Some special facts about its introduction: it was the first Cadillac to offer a manual transmission since the Cimarron back in 1988, though today the sedan is only available in 6- and 8-speed automatic (You can still find a manual on some used models, though, if that’s your thing!).

The first generation CTS also helped usher in Cadillac’s now-famous “Art & Science” design language that still permeates the brand’s stunning lineup.

CTS stands for Catera Touring Sedan, as the model came in as Cadillac’s successor to the Catera mid-size sedan which was produced from 1997-2001. If you have a good memory for things like this, it was “the Caddy that zigs” and had ads featuring Cindy Crawford:

Nowadays, the Catera’s successor, our mighty CTS, is even more fit for a princess/supermodel. With features that automakers of decades past only imagined in their science-fiction imaginations like the Cadillac User Experience (CUE) information and  media control system with embedded navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, adaptive remote start, and Ultrasonic Rear Park Assist, we think this hyper-modern luxury sedan is one of the best options out there (and the critics seem to agree!).
