When you think about trucks, you typically get the appearance of a rugged vehicle in your mind, right? While the 2014 GMC Sierra will have all of that with its all-new styling, it might also surprise you with some of its other features. Namely, the 2014 GMC Sierra safety features are something to behold and will make the truck the trailblazer for next level full-size truck safety technology. One of the big 2014 GMC Sierra safety features that we consider a breakthrough is the haptic seat technology it will be fitted with. This involves a seat that can make you aware of certain driving conditions – all in the name of safety. In conjunction with the Lane Departure Warning, the seat of the new Sierra will vibrate in the left or right side of the seat depending on the side of lane encroachment without an active turn signal. In the same way, the Forward Collision Alert system makes the entire seat vibrate when there is the potential for a collision.
While the seat is a real breakthrough, the existence of the technology to tell the seat what’s happening is where the real technology exists. For example, the Forward Collision Alert is able to monitor traffic through the use of a camera behind the windshield. The Lane Departure Warning works in much the same way, employing a camera to help keep you on track.

When pairing these safety systems, officials from GM compared it to someone tapping the driver on the shoulder to inform them of a road condition. But it wasn’t just their best guess, as research they did was able to show that the vibrating seat was more effective than say, an audible warning.
